Raising vast amounts of money has sadly become necessary for sitting Representatives of our federal government and for those wishing to oppose them. This bizarre circus of fundraising events for Kirsten Gillibrand, my Representative in the US House, has her holding between one and three fundraising events each week, according to her published schedule. I doubt our Founding Fathers would recognize the US House as it operates today. They would never understand the fundraising. That’s because Reps are now spending more time raising money than the job they were elected to do. From top to bottom, bottom to top, sideways and diagonally, we must reform this system of financing federal campaigns. It has the world believing that Washington DC is the mot corrupt capital city in the world. I would be hard pressed to disagrees with that evaluation. As the old saying goes “You dance with the one who brought you” and if you take the time to study the list of donors who brought (or bought) Ms. Gillibrand to Congress you will notice that she is subjected to dancing with an unsavory crowd of folks including associates, colleagues, and principles of a major arms dealer, the BAE Corporation. It is horrendously bothersome that Ms. Gillibrand is a major shareholder in the BAE Corporation, as is her husband and her father-in-law who was the former chairman of that company. Put that together with the fact that Ms. Gillibrand sought and received an appointment to the Armed Services Committee which oversees contracts for the various armed services and you will begin to see, as I do, that her list of contributors begins to look like a Company purchasing a seat in the US House of Representatives. I hope she can explain all of this. The fundraisers in London and Paris were in conjunction with BAE supporters and consultants. BAE is based in London. It looks bad, very bad. Morris N.
